Full Description

Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations to identify the fundamental etiopathogenetic commonalities between lung cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in order to characterize: (a) the genotypic and phenotypic characteristics that determine individual susceptibility; and (b) the shared biochemical, molecular, and immunological pathways involved in the origin and progression of the two diseases. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism.

Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NHLBI intends to commit up to $12,000,000 (Total Costs) and the NCI intends to commit up to $12,000,000 (Total Costs) over 4 years. It is anticipated that up to 8 awards will be made.
