Full Description

Purpose. This FOA solicits applications to develop innovative methods for membrane protein production so that the rate of membrane protein structure determination may be enhanced. Methods development for expression, solubilization, stabilization, purification, characterization, crystallization, and isotopic labeling of membrane proteins to enable the determination of their structures by electron microscopic, x-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry, and other biophysical techniques are emphasized. This FOA is a follow-on to the NIH Roadmap RFA-RM-07-003 with updates and modification of the mechanisms of grant support that are to be used.

Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The total amount of funding that the NIH expects to award through this announcement is $3-5 million in FY10; the anticipated number of awards is 13-16 awards and this number will depend on the budgets and areas of IC interest of the awards made.
