Eligibility

Youth Employment Habitat Restoration Environmental Economic Stimulus

Full Description

The Oregon/Washington Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is interested in providing employment opportunities for qualified youth crews in local communities in Oregon and Washington for the purpose of supporting environmental community service and economic stimulus through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The specific projects within this program will occur within the Wenatchee Resource Area of the BLM's Spokane District Office. They will provide for habitat restoration by constructing and maintaining fences that protect important wildlife and riparian habitat. Flagging of fences for visibility and installation of wildlife escape ramps on water troughs will reduce potential injury and mortality of sage-grouse, a candidate for federal listing, and other wildlife species.

The results of the inventory and mapping of fences and water developments will be included into GIS to facilitate future maintenance, improve information for future planning efforts and help determine the need for additional projects.
