Habitat Restoration Sage-Grouse Native Species Environmental Science

Full Description

BLM has been engaged with restoration of sagebrush/steppe habitat for sage grouse for several years. Seeds from native grass, forb and shrub species have been collected, grown out for seed production and reintroduced in restoration sites. Prior work with restoration of this plant community using locally native species has been limited and successful techniques poorly understood. This research will address long-neglected challenges by studying the sagebrush community, which may takes years to recover from ineffective range management practices.

Investigations may include germination, viability, genetic pollination or other biological or ecological attributes that contribute to understanding of the sage grouse and solutions for species use in restoration.
