Full Description

The application due date is changing to January 15, 2010 due to on the ground work starting earlier. -- Utah BLM's recreation program has ARRA funding available to work with youth conservation corps for the purposes of preserving and creating jobs and promoting economic recovery; assisting those most impacted by the recession; providing investments needed to increase economic efficiency by spurring technological advances in science and; investing in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits. BLM is interested in working with conservation corps to complete conservation projects that enhance the student?s classroom learning by providing them opportunities to gain experience, learn about public lands, further their understanding and appreciation of natural and cultural resources, and pique their interest in natural resource careers. Projects include: placement of route signs, trail head signs, recreational informational kiosks; removing traces of illegal trails by raking out tracks, moving large rocks, boulders, dead and down tree limbs to block access to illegal routes; trail repair and trail maintenance which includes naturalizing of trails; installing fencing along trails and at campgrounds; cutting brush to define the established trail and/or protect adjacent resources, filling ruts and holes; reducing wildfire risks; mitigating damage from insects, disease, and disasters, installing erosion control; control or removal of invasive, noxious, non-native plant species; and restoring native species.
